Making time to prepare for the ACT on top of your busy high school schedule may seem like a daunting task. But even if you don’t have large chunks of time to dedicate to taking lots of practice exams, that doesn’t mean that you can’t prepare.ACT_Vocabulary-1

While the ACT does not have a dedicated vocabulary section, becoming familiar with a number of words that are used frequently on both the ACT and SAT is an easy way to build your verbal skills. To score well on these tests, you’ll need to expand your vocabulary and become familiar with how words are used in multiple contexts. A+ Test Prep and Tutoring offers Vocabulary Booster sessions designed to increase your word skills, but if you can’t fit tutoring into your schedule there are still some quick and simple ways to enhance your vocabulary.

We’ve compiled three helpful links to help even the busiest of students brush up on their ACT vocabulary skills prior to taking the test:

1. Quizlet: This free tool offers you the ability to create your own flash cards or practice with pre-made sets. This set features College Board’s Top 100 most common SAT and ACT Vocabulary Words, and a simple search of their site reveals thousands (literally!) of other options for SAT or ACT vocabulary study on the go.

2. Word Dynamo: Part of Dictionary.com’s family of websites, Word Dynamo offers gaming options that allow you to practice ACT vocabulary through matching games, crossword puzzles, and flash cards. The site also has audio features that allow you to listen to the words’ pronunciations.
