Philadelphia-Area-Learning-DisabilitiesA+ Test Prep & Tutoring helps students get to the next level. Sometimes that means preparing a student to earn the few extra SAT points he needs to be accepted into his dream school. However, we also help students with a broad range of learning disabilities to prepare for the SAT and ACT. As a parent, you may feel stress, anxiety, and guilt about your student’s learning issues—but you’re not alone. Whether you live near our Montgomeryville or Jenkintown location or prefer in-home sessions, our tutors can bring your student the specialized attention he needs to succeed. The following are some reasons that A+ Test Prep & Tutoring’s one-to-one services may be particularly beneficial to students with special learning needs.

Attention to Detail

According to the National Center for Learning Disabilities, one in twenty public school students are identified with specific learning disabilities and another 15% struggle in school due to unidentified learning and attention issues. We can’t group all students with learning disabilities into one segment—each of their struggles and strengths will be different.  A+ reviews psycho-educational testing and consults with parents, teachers, and any other education professionals involved in order to fully understand each student’s needs and create an instructional program tailored to the student’s needs.

Appropriate Pace

In an article published in the Huffington Post, “Never the First to Finish: Why Pace Matters,” Sarah Vander Schaaff explains the process she went through to help her daughter, who was struggling with the pace of lessons and timed tests. “My first instinct was to increase the things we’d already been doing: more flashcards, more drills, more practices online or with apps,” she writes. “But when I considered we’d been doing the same things for more than a year with little progress, I decided we needed some fresh ideas.” An assessment revealed that her daughter’s memory was typical, but her processing speed was slightly weak. Ultimately, Schaaff turned to a tutor who had experience working with students with learning disabilities. By approaching the material differently and at an appropriate pace, the private tutor helped teach Schaaff’s daughter to learn and recall information for testing.

Fewer Distractions

Typically, tutoring in a group isn’t a great fit for students with learning issues and ADD/ADHD because of their specialized needs and the distractions that are inherent to group settings. A+ has tutors who are specially trained in working with students with learning disabilities and who can keep the student on task and engaged. If a student gets off track, the tutor can motivate her to regain focus because she has the tutor’s undivided attention. By eliminating distractions that impede the learning process, students with learning disabilities are in a better position to succeed.
